I was 15 at the time, played 900 hours of Ruby but never even knew about competitive aspects of the game because there was literally no community I knew of that were age 13 and up.
So without knowing even what the fuck IV's or EV's are seeing a bunch of retarded as fuck creatures there was really fucking nothing there - and fuck, I also still continued to live in middle of nowhere without any competitive community much so ever anyway - so Play Gen IV or not, I would have missed that competitive either fucking way.
I am rather glad Soul Silver and Black exist though, both seem really cool games for their own right and GEN V is not that retarded, it seems to pet what Ruby was; not perfect but OK looking.
That is the sad thing about Gen IV; you people may say it was best competitive but it was probably the game that actually intorduced competitive to mainsteam pokemanning. And I am not the first or last one who just quit Pokemon thanks to how fucking stupid Diamond/Pearl looked like to us.
If anything is kek here, it's that ball Ninty and GF dropped with it. But I digress - I still to this day do not care for competitive even today so saying the back seat is comfortable in the car I am buying when I do not have any family or friends to use that back seat is kinda useless.
