Anyone competent would use Ice Punch on Pidgeot. After the Guts OR Sheer Force boost it's a guaranteed OHKO. Not like Pidgeot won't just OHKO with a Brave Bird but you're still a fucking idiot.

Which is why you would switch out Conkeldurr in such a situation; no Pokémon can deal with every potential threat.
Besides, Pidgeot is incredibly obscure, so whether or not Conkeldurr can safely check it is of little importance.
