Time for a headcanon thread.

Officially licensed pokemon trainers name's show up on your pokedex when you battle them. After all what are the odds every single person you fight ever is going just randomly tell you their names? Especially trainers that are ambushing you or something of the like.

This is also why grunts only ever show up as "grunt", since they're not officially licensed pokemon trainers and are working illegally.

A potential problem with that would be that in HG/SS, Silver was mentioned to have a Trainer Card ("Give it back! That's my Trainer Card! Oh no! You saw my name…").
Despite this, the Pokédex-wielding player saw him simply as 'Passerby Boy'.

Gen 3. Emerald at least. I think it was the PokeNav.
You register the occasional trainer, and can rematch them. You get Gym Leader and Elite 4 data automatically. It also had data about the trainer

Almost all of the major points in the games where you fight the villanous teams (Pokémon Tower, Game Corner, Silph Co, Mahogony town hq, radio tower etc.) it's a larger event then displayed, and you're not the only one fighting them-sometimes there being around a hundred others that you are working with(such as in Mount Coronet). This allows other people's games to have also taken place in universe.

The reason you're such a prodigy in ever game is largely due to your pokedex.
That screen you have while battling? It's your pokedex. Half of everything you can do is because of your pokedex. It gives you a better advantage over others, and that's why they tend to only train one or two pokemon.

I sort of assumed this in my mind to make sense of it. I also figured that the Pokédex stored data on what moves your Pokémon know, their stats and all that. Either that or Poké Balls store that info since you can check it even before you get a dex.

The whole Pokémon League is part of a global conspiracy - if everyone is obsessed with Pokémon battling, politics can be left to a hidden elite. Televised Pokémon battles are massively popular. Oh god please. I am such a slut for this kind of shit.

Pokedollars can only buy licensed pokemon products and select general use items (water, touristy items, clothing).

I figure this could be the case because the impoverished still exist (Emma) and why I, the champ, can't hand her and Looker 5,000,000 pokedollars and tell them to quit whining about money.

Also being the champ is just a title. To actually be the "champion" champion you gotta apply THEN go balls out against the current champ's "your job is on the line" team.

That's a good way to think of it. Or maybe there's a champ certification, which is separate from the job. After winning you can decide whether to take the place of the sitting champion or you can take your title and leave.

Backing this up, that's what I'd always thought. Trainers can carry the title of a Champion of that region but they can take the position of resident Champion if they want. The current resident Champion might put up more of a fight if you want to kick them off though.

I've always wanted NPCs during post-game to actually treat you like you're the Champion. You're the most powerful and most likely famous trainer in the region and there are trainers that will pick fights with you act like they're tough shit.

The climax events/going through long caves/victory road run is obviously sped up in the game, but in-universe those events would most likely take at least days to accomplish. Except for storming the plasma castle or Silph. Co, which is much more awesome if thought about as being done in just one day.

The Eterna Forest in Platinum and pretty much every other buddy sequence in the game would take at least a whole day each, enough in-universe for the trainer and the buddy to actually get to know each other. I like to think Cheryl and Lucas/Dawn took one or two days to get ouf of the forest, while rescuing Mira from that cave took a whole day and they only got out at night. At the same time, storming Stark Mountain with Buck only saw them getting out by the morning of the next day, as did the Marley sequence through the fog.

Going through the victory road would be a week(s)-long quest in and on itself. I think people often sleep in there and there is some sort of safety measure to make sure a wild pokemon won't come fuck you over in your sleep.

Also, Barry is the true prodigy in the D/P/Pt games. Why? Because he got to be one of the strongest damn trainers in the land....Without a pokedex. He bolted before Prof. Rowan could give him one.

The Champion only goes to their battle chamber when a challenger has beaten at least three of the Elite Four, which almost never happens because you're the only person in the Pokémon universe who isn't retarded.

The Champion spends most of their time protecting the region, stopping natural disasters and large scale criminal operations, managing the League's gym leaders and Elites, maintaining Pokémon habitats and showing off for fans.

The old champ hangs around after you beat them just because they don't have much else to do except train to beat you again. The player characters usually just forfeit the championship back to the old one after awhile because they have too much shit to do to bother with all that crap.
