We knew that he was probably going to steamroll everyone and win the league from the moment he was revealed, and when the time came for Ash to get his, the writers showed us mercy by a) making Tobias act like a decent human being and b) actually letting Ash put up a good fight against an unbeatable foe. No one else even scratched that Darkrai, remember?
Cameron was 100% bullshit, though, since he was a total retard who had no idea what he was doing. It took a combination of lolHydreigon out of nowhere, lolclutch evolution mid-battle, and lolAsh failing to into teambuilding to generate that bullshit, and the writers never gave us any reason to ever think that Cameron would be a credible foe until that point. Seriously, how did Unfezant fail to take out Riolu when it had a type and a maneuverability advantage? Why didn't Ash use Snivy's tried-and-true Attract strategy to stop Riolu/Lucario from charging right on through the rest of his Pokemon? Why weren't Krookodile or Scraggy on that team?
