>>18819077Let's look at this logically. X and Y, unlike every other main series Pokemon game until now, got a simultaneous worldwide release. Thus, in order to properly predict when the next Pokemon games will be released, we have to follow the Japanese release schedule.
The first games of Gen V, Pokemon Black and White, were released in Japan in September 2010. The next main series titles, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, didn't hit Japanese shelves until June 2012. If you go by initial release dates, this whole "yearly series" argument falls completely apart when you realize that everyone is now on the same release regime as the Japanese.
I didn't realize it at first, but this whole "simultaneous release" thing is going to kill a lot of the hype that we've grown accustomed to with Pokemon releases. With Gen V, we had roughly six months between finding out about all of the new content and actually getting to try it out ourselves. Part of the reason why X and Y seemed so short is that we didn't have to wait half a year between eagerly lapping up leaks from lucky internationals and entering our own names in the Kalosian Hall of Fame.
It's also important to note that Pokemon games tend to sell moderately well until the next one is revealed. Calling X and Y the worst selling games in the series is a little unfair, since its sales period isn't over yet.
