Putting details in something doesn't make it good. I'm not saying it doesn't have good technique, I'm saying the end result sucks overall. It's a beautifully detailed and painstakingly rendered turd. It's the Mona Lisa painted with diarrhea. In the end, it's still crap regardless of how much detail was inserted.

The art looks nice but I really dislike the route the artist took with his interpretation of the Pokemon with the exception of Mankey. I wish he focused less on being shocking and more on making the Pokemon more realistic because his style is nice.

Personally I like the idea of Pokemon looking more ruthless and badass, similar to mtg cards. Cute fluffy animals fighting each other seems kinda weird to me.

(not that I'm ripping on the real designs, because I like those too)

If the artist(s) focused on realism more than edge and superfluous detailing, it would probably be a lot better. Instead it's Junji Ito Redesigns Pokemon.
