Why is it called Mega Evolution instead of Mega Form?

And to make it clear I know it's not a Digimon rip-off, I'm just asking about the nomenclature.

Mega Form seems more appropiate to me.

Even through they're pretty much forms GF used Evolution to make the idea seem as hype-worthy as possible.

I think it had a multi-faceted purpose. Improving and/or fixing older pokes was obvious. They seemed to want to do it in a way that would not add to the actual number of pokemon. Not to mention it would mean the status quo of the numbers would remain.

Because that would draw attention to the fact that it IS a glorified form change. Mega Evolution is a marketing gimmick to draw more little jimmies tot he series. You want it to sound new and exciting.
