Pokemon pronunciation thread?
When I heard pic related in the smash direct it was weird because I always said it like this

The original Japanese pronounces it that way. The localization just wanted to avoid people saying "arse". I don't flipping care. I no longer pay attention to official pronunciations and just say what I want.

It goes against every fiber of my being to pronounce it GLYE-score and not GLIH-score.

Similarly, it feels more natural to say Weavile like "evil" than Weavile like "we vile."

Considering the Arceus movie exists the pronunciation is correct in the Direct

(Arr like a Pirate or the letter R, Ki as in Key for a Dorr, and Uhs like the word us for you and I)

I feel that the Pokemon Battle Revolution announcer is the end-all reference for all the gen1-4 Pokemon.

The way I figger it:

#1:
a) Read the word aloud. If you skip/add in vowels or consonants due to your shitty dyslexia then let others figure this out for you. If this doesn't fly:

b) Appeal to what word the name is trying to reference. If that sounds awkward and stunted:

#2: Appeal to animoo pronunciation. If that still doesn't make any sense:

#3: Pronounce it how you think it should be pronounced. Step #1a applies.

Due to this process, I come out saying "kai-ogre", "Ray-quah-zah", and "ark-ay-us". The last one is probably wrong but I always thought the name was referring to archaic (I'm not pomf), and the latin deus.

Okay so I've explained my process. Archaic + Deus = Arceus (arkeus).

I know that it's usually pronounced Arseus but that leaves the question as to where the "Arc" bit comes from? I can think of no word or thing that it might be referencing that pronounces "arc" like "ars". If anyone's willing to explain this to me I'll oblige.
