hey /vp/ i'm training up a Dusknoir and i'm just wondering what a goodset for Dusknoir would be?

so far i'm giving it Will O Wisp and Skill Swap but i'm not too sure of which other moves i should give it.

i was thinking maybe Rest or Pain Split and maybe Shadow Ball?

i mainly want to use it for Free for All battles against friends but it'd be great if i could also use it competitively as well.

oh also i forgot to mention my aim is to make it one of those annoying pokemon to battle against with things like will o wisp and skill swap rather than a straight up attacker

Unfortunately that role is better suited for its prevo, don't go with shadow ball for an attacking move as his Sp.A is horrid coated to his physical
If you insist on going for the support annoyed role take at least 2 physical attacking moves and 252 HP EVs

Dusknoir's HP is 45, that's definitely low enough to abuse pain split.

If you're going to put an attacking move, use Shadow Sneak or Shadow Punch, maybe Phantom Force to stall out burn damage + gain some leftover recovery. Dusknoir's attack is 100, while it's special attack is only 65, less than blissey, man.

Something like:

Phantom Force / Shadow Sneak
Will O Wisp
Pain Split
Skill Swap

It's ability is decent now though, Frisk if you get one. I've seen an assault vest one on showderp that manages to hold it's own from time to time. I can hit up the archives and look it up for you if you want.

so irritating i've had to dig out my copy of Soul Silver and catch myself a Duskull and teach it Skill Swap and Pain Split because bulbapedia's telling me the only way to Teach a Duskull Pain Split is through the Move Tutor in Soul Silver.

So once it's in my moveset i can just teach rest over the top of it and use a heart scale to relearn it later if i want.

It's prevo gets dunked by Knock off and becomes worthless afterwards, while Dusknoir can still pack a punch with it's great coverage.

Shame it's attack is only 100, that's only 'decent'.

I use this and it can get pretty annoying for the other player sometimes.
I've also noticed that not a lot of people pack Knock off on cart.

His prevo only has 5 less points per defensive stat, so even with knock off running around its still going to be bulkier by taking reduced damage from the first knock off via eviolite. Dusknoirs only appeal over dusclops is its attack stats being higher. If OP wants to use dusknoir for this I won't tell him not to, I will however try to give him a set that plays more dusknoirs advantages

You're definitely right about the knock off, yeh, it was mostly a tutor move in Gen5 so people probably don't have it. But pokemon like Kabutops and Mienshao learn it, and it's pretty killer when it comes up. Then again, he might burn it and not worry about it too much.

You're right. Eviolite boosts both defenses and calculates them into account when taking Knock Off. The way OP is trying to use his Dusknoir seems more fitting for Dusclops (bulking hits, burning, pain splitting hard for recovery, skill swappin), but if you gotta use OutClassed Evo, using it's great coverage + decent attack's gotta be done.

Skill Swap is also an Egg Move for Duskull. If you find yours not doing so hot IV wise, you could probably breed it down to some better bred Duskull.
