Gastrodon's storm drain was shit during gen 4 because it didnt raise its special attack by 1 when hit by a water type, so it was literally a water-type version of gen 3 lightningrod. Because of this, it was outclassed by Swampert, which had better defensive stats, faster, and had a usuable attack stat. The reason it went OU in gen 5 was weather wars and the buff in storm drain.
