If /vp/ hates smogon rules so much, why doesn't it make its own ruleset?

The mono >>18840136 and dubs >>18847572 tournament threads already have a different set of rules from what smogon uses.

Because creating a blanket rule set for such a large game is difficult.

I think the game has gotten to the point where its near impossible to create balance for it. A lot of Smogons bans, are frustrating as they are for people, actually were good in theory and made sense. But the game itself has gotten to the point where balance is impossible.

I don't think event legends (Mew, Celebi, etc) should be banned. Base 100 stats is not that big of a deal to be honest, especially if we're allowing mega evolutions.

The point is you only have one chance catch legends with good nature/IVs legitly, so genner faggots are always at an advantage if you allow them. Whereas with breedables, you can hatch as many eggs as you want until you get the desired result.

Even with the changes in XY, you'll have to soft-reset several times for a good spread and can't just catch another one with a different nature for an alternative set.

1. You have to gen/RNG abuse good ones. Most people don't care about that, but it stops people arguing about it.

2. Not all types have legends, and not all legends are able to be used under Flat Rules. Poison, Fairy, Dark, Bug, and Ghost get nothing, so it lopsidedly favors some types over others.

3. Some people hate genies and Heatran, or Terrakion, etc. While some legends like Regice or Zapdos are fine and would fit well into the metagame, someone still has to arbitrarily choose which legends are too good... Which is what Smogon already does.

4. Despite all that, our "no lengends" rule might change. 3vs3 Flat Rules means that big, bad, scary things like Mega Blaziken are much more manageable, since Focus Sash is very viable in this format, among other things. Etc..

But our monotype metagame is like night and day difference from Smogon 6vs6. It's not even close to the same thing. Honestly, as annoying as Smogon is, they do a bretty gud job of trying to balance 6vs6 singles.

TL;DR: if Smogon 6vs6 bugs you, start up up your own meta. Flat Rules, doubles, triples, hackmons, monotype... There are people out there who would play with you. We're proof of that.

Those rulesets work because you're artificially limiting the teambuilding process, in the case of the mono tournament, and playing a completely different metagame, in the case of dubs.
Blanket ban on legendaries is okay, but specific banning is even more optimal and we can do it, with legendaries being so little compared to the rest of other pokemon.

it turned out to have nearly exactly the same rules as smogon because pokemon is a turned based game, and damage calcs can easily prove what pokemon are too big to play with the big boys.

The people who bitch about smogon are people who dont actually play competitive pokemon in the first place
