So playing emulated Emerald and I went to Sky Pillar to catch Rayquaza not remembering he's fucking level 70. Then I get my dumb ass trapped in the battle by accidentally saving. So, what are my chances of catching this guy when all I have is ultra balls, mons they get one shot and outsped and an oddish with a quick claw?

What's my best strategy for this? Spam balls when he's full health asleep or try and knock him down to like 7/8ths health but not asleep? Does confusion raise catch rate, because after he's one shotted four of my guys he gets confused.

Do what I did when I ran into roaming legends on emulators. Save the state during the battle, before you choose an action. Then throw an ultra ball. Keep loading the state and doing it until it works.

If you put it to sleep then you have a 1.598% chance of capturing it per ball.

Not putting it to sleep means you'll have a 0.83% chance per ball.

Put it to sleep and reduce its health to red and you'll have a 4.366% chance of capturing it per ball.

Can't you save the state while the ball is in flight, and just keep loading that?

When does it decide if he is caught or not? When you throw it or after the animation plays?

Will not work because it's too late, it rolls the dice when you select the ball (I'm pretty sure) so to be safe you should save the state either when your cursor is over "bag" or over the ultra ball in the bag.

I don't know the mechanics of sleep. But it could be. Perhaps the amount of turns is determined when it falls asleep.
Seriously though, this is the best deal. It may take a bit, but not more than like 10 minutes. Just get him to sleep (which you obviously already did), save state, chuck a ball at him, load state, rinse and repeat until caught

Actually, at some point they started making fixed location pokemon respawn after you beat the Elite Four, so he may have a point.

So I finally caught it after maybe 2 1/2 hours over the last couple days. It's moves became somewhat predictable based on its AI after a while. I.e. it would always wake up after 3 turns then use fly, then outrage continuously. Or it would wake and use fly continuously. However, I noticed maybe a fifth of the time after waking he'd use rest two turns in a row if I kept my oddish out. This key me loose a poisonpowder that drained his health as a switched in my mons as sacrifice and continually threw balls every turn. Maybe the 11th time I tried this (It goes 7 balls each time) and it worked.

Also, congrats. I was going to suggest saving a savestate on your emulator after putting it to sleep. That'd save some time the next time you get stuck in this situation.

now that there's a gba4ios thread, does anybody have the solution to my problem? I was playing Emerald for the first time, and then when I'm in the weather institute with 30 hours logged in, the game completely crashes. The appwon't open now.
