The mods deleted the anime hype thread yesterday yet they keep the 6 waifu generals which are complete circlejerk.

Pokemon anime discussion thread. I'm currently watching Hoenn because I've never seen any of it before.

Yupp. Brock and Misty are still in the group. Only thing I wish is that they didn't have Team Rocket in EVERY SINGLE EPISODE. Christ, even for kids the repeated failures has to be annoying

Currently watching all of the episodes myself. On episode 393 (Hoenn, Ash recently just got the 8th badge).
In reply to >>18873715, the only reason I've even made it this far and remained interested in Team Rocket. They make every episode feel less repetitive and more comical in my opinion. I always get a chuckle from them but nothing seems to change much in regards to Ash and the gang.

A little but not much. I'm really bad at describing things but I'll give it a shot haha.
In the OS he seems more cocky and in peoples faces that he wants to be the best, making him appear very in your face and overly confident. This also backfires a lot because he generally didn't know what he was doing a lot of the time.
In Advanced Generation he became more humble and open to learn and growing with his Pokemon, with his cockiness only slipping through every now and then. He's also generally better but again, slips whenever he gets a little over his head.
Generally the same but just less frequent, I guess.

There was also the episode where Ash Dawn and Brock set up a trap for them
Ash: Is that a bad guy I hear?
Dawn: Sounds to me loud and clear
Ash: On the wind!

That was totally accurate. I've watching Kanto-Sinnoh and I couldn't describe it better.

People say he lost his personality, but I feel like it's the opposite. He grew up from being a little cocky rookie into being a decent teacher.

That's a good point. I do like the dialogue. I love the stupid puns they do, and they also say some pretty funny things.

My favorite episodes tend to be the ones where Jessie and James are actually good.

I agree. I like "chill, kind of boring" Ash. He's found his groove and doesn't care to break out of it.

While this is probably because of lazy writing, I like to think of it as him not giving a shit and wanting to have the most fun with his pokebros.

That was a god episode, though. Episodes that focus on TR seem to always be some of the good ones of the season.

Yeah no it's become obvious Team Rocket will always be there haha. A few episodes back May lost her Bulbasaur and she instantly jumped to thinking it was Team Rocket. Meanwhile in the bushes beside them was Team Rocket proud to hear they were finally recognized as evil even though they had not stolen the Pokemon, but it was a wild Linoone.
In another moment Team Rocket confronted Ash and the gang and Ash quickly jumped to thunderbolt
Rocket: Don't you think that gets old? No one likes experiencing the same thing over and over again.
Ash: Well why do you think everyone hates you!
Rocket: he's totally right... ;_;

If anything I would say his personality is just less loud. In the OS he gets most of his badges by flukes. In Advanced Generation, he even goes so far as to impress brock and everyone around him at his out-of-the-box strategies and quick thinking. Definitely more competent.

I guess what I'm trying to say about Team Rocket is... After being 393 episodes in, things are inevitably going to repeat themselves. Ash will always catch a Pokemon, he will always come up with some random stratagy that wins him a badge in the last second, then they'll spend 10 or so episodes wandering between towns finding out more about Pokemon while Team Rocket tries to steal his Pikachu.
The thing I like about Team Rocket is they change up the repetitiveness. They play with the fact you know they're going to say their motto, but every episode or two, change up the wording of the motto in a way that matches the situation. Whatever they say is never expected and usually just catches me off guard because I always expect the same old motto with the same old words and they change it to something just silly and comical despite them trying to be evil and serious.
(Also I have the biggest love for puns and the biggest love for Pokemon so I will never get tired of them)

I'm one of those people that think Sinnoh was the best series on the show. Ash and Dawn were handled pretty well and the bad guys (sans TR most of the time) were actually threatening. And dat league, too.

The anime threads were always filled with the same five people that talked about nothing but who's best grill.

Sinnoh handled all the major arcs pretty well. Ash vs Paul, Dawn's identity crisis, Team Galactic, the league, Contests, etc.

The only problem with Sinnoh is it was too long, and some of the dub voices are shit.

Ignoring its length, Sinnoh is easily the best series, story-wise at least.

Kanto had shit pacing and Ash got over half his badges in pity
Orange Islands were OK
Johto was long with little plot, and they abandoned the GS Ball which brought them there in the first place
Hoenn was fine until they completely and utterly wasted Team Magma and Aqua
Battle Frontier had horrible pacing, but it was OK
Sinnoh had good pacing (not many fillers between events), great characters, great character-building, several well-plotted arcs and Team Galactic were done well.
Unova was good up until Earth butted in, then it went to shit and the rivals were all wasted, then Ash lost to a moron in what is the worst league to date, and the worst battle saga in the hisory of any anime ever
I haven't seen any of Kalos yet
