Charizard only has two legs, which makes him only two times as slow, so it's twice as easy to outspeed your opponent to the A button. Since thumb speed is the basis of competitive Pokemon, this makes Charizard one of the best Fire types to have on your team.
It's still a retarded point though, since Magcargo, having no legs at all, easily outspeeds every other Fire type, and since it knows Stealth Rock, the most powerful competitive move, it's the top choice.
