I've never been on /vp/ before, but i'm hoping you guys can help me out. I'm looking for a rom that lets me choose my own starter pokemon. If anyone could help point me in the right way it'll be great.

If you want something like that you can just hack your starter into the game by using the cheat engines provided by the emulators, or just play a randomizer (which is a lot more fun than regular playthroughs).

No, not at all, i was being sarcastic. I was speaking in general about picking any pokemon as my starter not just the first three starter pokemon.

Light Platinum is a fun playthrough but it got super formulaic and the story is hilariously shitty fanfic tier. BlazeBlack 2 has a bit of a steep difficulty spike with the competitive-monotype-tier Gym Leader battles but overall it's an awesome experience to work through.

Look into randomizers. Some of the better ones give you the option of pre-selecting the starter choices or just leaving it to chance. You don't even have to randomize the whole game.
