I know people give Iris shit for catching an overleveled Dragonite that she didn't train or work for. But couldn't you say that about Season 1 Charmeleon/Charizard? Though, when it was a Charmander, it's loyalty and training was hardly different from Ash's other mons. Yet Ash didn't train Charmeleon into a Charizard, its evolution happened was because it was butthurt by that Aerodactyl. Granted, Ash didn't earn most of his Kanto badges.
