A riposte, in fencing, consists in deviating a hit that's coming at you in such a manner that you can almost simultaneously and almost infallibly return the hit. Which is the kind of move that you'd use on someone who's just charging blindly at you trying to whack you with its sword.
It's about outsmarting your opponent, which is the theme of many dark moves (foul play, nasty plot, feint attack, sucker punch...). Which is what would justify it being dark.
It could be made more useful by having that gimmick work similarly to sucker punch: if the opponent is taunted and you use this move, its attack will miss.
