How is the anime adaptating XY in comparison to DPPT?

I have been watching the dub instead but in Japan it seems like we're a good way in and still no Flare. No Tierno, Trevor, or Calem either.. They're missing the major plot points. Does Ash even have a rival?

I've heard some speculations of Clemont being Ash's rival. And Team Flare's gonna show up soon enough, wasn't it even slightly hinted at the opening?

Only question is which legendary they'd feature...

I think Ash seems more likely to get a Mega Ring. Serena might get one too, but they won't pass up giving it to the main character, especially because he already has a Charizard and Gamefreak loves Mega Charizard.

Alan's special suggests that Mega Rings really aren't all that rare.
