I bought heartgold, but have found that the fun is gone from pokemon for one reason- I now have been enlightened to the meta game by x and y

And since it's virtually impossible to access the meta game in the campaign of heartgold, and still pretty difficult compared to x and y in the endgame, I'm too busy worrying about what pokemon I have and all that shit to have fun.

I wish I could play pokemon like I did as a kid again. Any advice? I just really want to make a team of cool pokemon, name them special things, and just not give a shit about anything again and explore.

Also, when you play a poke for the first time, do you just have fun or prepare for competitive stuff early?
