It just really annoyed me that, as far as first episodes go, it started off really strong. Then it becomes Charizard pandering - because we don't have enough of that already in the Poikemon community - and useless recaps of the game story. I'm much more interested in seeing battles with the various Gym leaders that employs a number of pokemon as opposed to watching Giovanni get really worked up over little boys.
The only thing it really got well was making Team Rocket seem like an actual threat. Its nice to see Team Rocket actually being successful in order to make their defeat all the sweeter.

I think Origins was fine. The point of it was to go back and let both new and old players feel what Pokemon was originally like without the side stuff tacked on (not that it's bad, but it can get a bit suffocating at times). Just a journey to collect badges, become the champion, and catch them all.

While his reasons for it in Origins do make sense, they're just too sudden and underdeveloped to actually have any meaning. What makes Red so special that Giovanni sees this in him? He doesn't do anything special except get really into a pokemon battle, something countless trainers have done before. At least Ash displays actual incredible love and devotion for pokemon (throwing yourself inbetween a mew and mewtwo is a pretty noble thing to do). IF we had more development of Giovanni and Red, maybe it would have made more sense. As it stands, it was way too sudden.
As far as the Mega stuff went, it was probably one of the better things handled in regards to the sense it made. However it still suffers from underdevelopment and lack of devoted time. The whole issue with origins is that they needed way more than 4 episodes. At least 12.

I remember playing through the game with my brother, and Lavender Town is something that stuck in my mind as a kid with the power of the tone it held.
Last I heard, TV Tokyo was pleased by the ratings Origins drew in, and were open to more in the future. I'd like to see what they'd do after this. I'd even settle for a monthly episode if they were to do a 12 episode serial or something.

The N arc was fucking amazing, it was the best arc in Unova because it actually felt like Ash was acting like himself when it came to the bonds with his Pokemon. that's really what's keeping me from enjoying XY as much as I want to, it's even more episodic than usual. one of the reasons DP was so great was because it had so many things ongoing, between Ash's rivalry with Paul, Dawn's contests, Team Galactic, the other rivals and all. I think the mega evolution episodes coming up might be fixing that though.
