They exist because of the 25 possible combinations. They technically raise and decrease the same stat equally. And there are 5 stats so yeah, 5 neutral Natures.

Several of my safari shinies have been neutral natured.
Compared to incorrect natures, neutral natures are a blessing.
Better then an adamant chansey or a timid parasect.

Actually, the negative stat is affected but the positive one isn't. That's why neutral is the best for Lv.1 mons.

Source: professional lv.1 cup master (I play against my brother and sister all the time with lv.1 mons because we're too poor to ev train)

In game I prefer a neutral nature over a hurtful nature but it doesn't matter that much.

In competitive, never really. If you want to run a mix set you usually want to hurt your special defense instead and go naive. I.E. look at Mixmence.

Yes. They don't lower a stat. Pretty much a Pokemon with a neutral nature is a throwback to pre-Gen III games.

sauce? Its math. 10% more hp lets you take 10% more physical and special attacks.
10% more defence lets you take 10% more physical attacks but it doesn't affect your special bulk.

Just to get this out of the way: Even in that case, neutral natures suck. You're always gonna have a stat with a higher number an one with a lower number, so you're always better off lowering the lower one and increasing the higher one, even if it means you have to invest more EVs in the lower to compensate.
