Mega pokemon were a huge mistake.

What they should have done:

>stat boosts and abilities similar to 4th Gen pokemon like Magmortar and Electivire
>addition of 4th evolutions or split 3rd evolutions for the likes of Charizard/Blaziken/Ampharos
>fresh designs that aren't just spikes and red colouring (Mega Banette and Mawile were good, Mega Tyranitar and Aerodactyl were bad).

I doubt anyone wants to fight a whole team of them, but I agree with some of the designs. Megadactyl just has rocks pointing out of it and Mega Gengar has feet and hands when you switch it in. Megampharos has amazing hzir though.

It changed the came.

Everyone has been wanting their Pokemon to evolve mid battle and now it can be done.
And we dont have to deal with the broken ness of added movepools. 4 stage evolutions still dont exist. And its limited to one mega evolution per battle. In addition its fucking optional. You dont have to press b.

Although I agree its powercreep

Megas are nice for fully evolved mons like Charizard/Blaziken/Ampharos, but I feel like regular evolutions would've been better for ones like Heracross and Pinsir.

Only fully evolved Pokemon should have gotten megas, and maybe a few stage 2 mons that were already good stat wise like Lucario.
There is literally no reason why Pokemon like Mawile and Pinsir shouldn't have just evolved normally.

Broken ability aside, I would have liked Mega Mawile to be an actual evolution, if only for its design. Houndoom and Manectric would have deserved one too (but their mega's design are hideous). Mega Banette is also pretty cool, it's a shame prankster doesn't activate on the first turn.

Notice in my original post I say:

Obviously non-Mega evolutions would not have the same stat boosts or broken abilities as they currently do. Rather, they might get re-arranged stats or minimal stat increases.

I don't think megas are a mistake, mistake is making the powerful ones like Blazy and Garchomp and Mewtwo & Having 2 stones to choose. And yeah, some megaevos are, quite odd designed.

I think Megas are pretty cool. The only thing I don't like about them is that you need the Mega Stones/Ring for them to work. As someone who really immerses themselves in Pokemon games when they play, it just bugs me. Like, no matter how much I battle with my bros and how well I treat 'em, they'll never reach their full potential unless I have a special stone?

I wish that the requirements for Mega Evolution were as follows:

>Pokemon must be on final evolutionary stage
>Pokemon must have max friendship

This way, I feel that Mega Evolution would really feel like something that was earned. It would also allow for more trainers to have Mega Pokemon, and do away with at least one aspect of the "you're the chosen one" thing that the games have been doing for a while now.

Also, the reason Mega Aerodactyl looks the way it does is because it's starting to become petrified. I agree that it still looks bad, lel edgy satan or something, but it makes sense.

I think Megas would have been more funny and endearing to use if there were ways to mega-evolve specifics of each pokemon instead of these fucking stones, like:
>Blaziken
acquire 3 speed boosts
>Lucario
somebody on the field as an aura ability (Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde)
>Mawile
lands a sucker punch
>Tyranitar
3 turns straight on the field with sandstorm on
>Charizard
Y: same as above, with sunlight
X: sunlight gets canceled by another weather before the 3 turns are over
>Venusaur
get hit by a fire or ice attack
>Abomasnow
3 turns in hail
>Ampharos
use an electric move on a ground pokèmon

I feel the same way, except that I think the Amie should've been connected with it. While I do agree that more people should've had mega evos, I don't think it should've been something everyone could accomplish. It should be the reward one gets for reaching a pokemon's true potential. It should've involved a more grueling challenge than we were given. Like some postgame challenge that once you complete it, you can access mega evos. You have to use the target pokemon, though, and it must have max Amie like above. It's always something that pokemon is weak to, though. Yes, you have to win at a disadvantage.

Amie being connected to it would have been pretty cool. Not only would it have been the way to access Mega Pokemon, explained what the hell Amie actually is. Seriously.
