I'm looking to build a good Weezing, without going down generic Smogon alley.
Is Toxic Spikes any good on this guy? Would putting EVs into Sp.Def be a waste of time, or would his natural bulk carry him decently enough without it? Thunder Bolt, Flamethrower, Will'O Wisp? What's a really solid set?

I'd think Sp.Def EVs would be best, it's Defense is high enough especially after WoW. I'm no competitive expert though.

Flamethrower/fire blast is good so you aren't walled by steels, but there should only really be room for one attacking move in it's arsenal. The rest should be support moves ranging from toxic spikes/pain split/ substitute

toxic spikes in general have just lost usage because defog, and people would rather use other hazards.

Toxic spikes can actually help the opponent. Taking light poison status means you can't be statused in another way, and it can activate guts/facade. It takes two turns of set up to be worth it and it is the easiest to remove hazard

Makes sense, how about Clear Smog? Any use with that? Seems like a really good move to stopping Pokémon that set up in their tracks.

why not flamethrower so you can hit potentially bigger threats like scizor/ferrothorn/aegislash/scolipede/trevenant/bisharp?

The only things thunderbolt does better is off the top of my head is heatran/rotom-w/mandibuzz, which weezing probably can't beat out through attacks anyways

I already had a fire type on my team, and Thunderbolt provided water/flying coverage that the team needed

Though considering the questionable usefulness of TSpikes, I might change that for FThrower

haze is better because it works through subsitute (but of course can be taunted). Either way, both are great moves, but underrated because of distribution. If more pokemon got haze, baton pass and even evasion boosts may not be so controversial

Be careful not to go the route misusing a pokemon's role. If you went sludge bomb/flamethrower/thunderbolt, you may as well run a sweeper, because weezing is not really made for offense. His best role is in his great support movepool which tends to have poor distribution, like haze/clear smog/will o wisp/pain split. Play to his defensive strengths and you'll get more KOs than an underwhelming attack might get you

Another big reason is that Toxic Spikes take away his ability to burn physical attackers that he can't deal with, so that something else can switch into them.

How good is Toxic Spikes? Other ailment effects seem to be much better than a normal poison counter. Unless Poisoned has other attributes I don't know about (Say, decreased defenses).

Sorry m8 but entry hazards are for smogon, you said you don't want to go down smogon alley so you can't use them.
Also no Black sludge/leftovers, will o wisp, painsplit or flamethrower. Those are smogon alley as well.

I don't think it's bad.

Its really great for wearing down stall teams/bp teams.

Also as a hazard its better than sticky web.

will o wisp is for when people send in steel types on you. Dont know if the immunity has changed since black white 2 havent played xy but its for anything but heateran. If someone switches in heateran obviously you need to switch out but everything else youre gonna be good.
