It isn't as though all the people who quit right before gen 3 were gathering together and saying 'GIVE US GEN 2 AGAIN'; That was the players who stuck around for gen 3 and 4, while also having taken part in gen 2.
The purpose of the Remakes was just as much to DRAW BACK audiences, if not moreso, than it was to appease fans demanding it.
