>>18960998Normal-types are still excellent. Really, only three things hold them back from domination: Fighting types, lack of defensive resists, and dearth of ways to get around burn status.
Elaboration:
1. None of the ones neutral to Fighting are both bulky enough and powerful enough to deal with multiple top-tier Fighters, especially Conkeldurr. Braviary has the best bulk + power + Fighting neutrality, but some Fighters still murder it.
2. Only Porygon2 and Furfrou can survive SE STAB Close Combats, and neither one hits hard enough to put the pressure on. The best they can do is passive + chip damage to rack up about 50% and die. Special attacking Lucario? Forgetaboutit.
3. Normal/Fairy is exactly what Normal needs to get those crucial Dark/Dragon resists, but Wigglytuff is just not good enough to deal with those types in broad spectrum.
4. Normal has a lot of Guts users, but Ursaring is a joke in singles outside Trick Room (and Trick Room in singles is a joke); Raticate has crap for coverage and gets walled so hard with the necessary Protect; Swellow is good, but is insanely frail despite good speed and power and priority.
5. Only decent special attackers are P2, P-Z, Pyroar, and Heliolisk. Only Pyroar is immune to burn, and Pyroar is extremely niche. Heliolisk suffers from lack of Normal STAB despite it's astounding coverage and good speed. P-2 being used offensively is a crime. P-Z is way too slow without a scarf to scare anything, way too frail to go for the 2HKO most times, hardly worth switching it out and saving it against most teams...
