Is Gastrodon actually advantageous over its Water/Ground kin like Quagsire and Whiscash

I've always seen Water/Ground as an effective combination, but I haven't liked most of what came out of it.

Gastrodon was always a niche counter that thrived in Rain.

Now, it's among the many useable-only-in-a-weather-meta mons that no longer get used.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; now it's gone.

Gone as Gastrodon's chances of being relevant.

Unaware is great against boosting sweepers. Probably usable over Gastrodon

Awkward speed, no useful ability. Probably most powerful of the lot.

Really too weak and slow, even after a Dragon Dance.

Awkward stats, though it does have great abilities. No physical water move. Poor movepool in general.

Gastrodon is probably one of the best, especially if you need a Water/Electric check.

Swampert can setup offensive boosts with great overall stats, but lack recovery and a lackluster ability. Runs a nice Assault Vest set.

Quagsire can both Recover and setup defensive/offensive boosts with the safety of Unaware, but suffers from lower spectrum stats.

Gastrodon gets Recover and good special bulk with some defensive utility options with the Water immunity+damage boost from Storm Drain, but lacks good physical bulk and offensive presence without a boost.

Whiscash exists. It has Dragon Dance going for it, but lacks good bulk (despite HP) and power (despite the boosts).
