It is hard to make true consequences in a pokemon game. The goal is to catch em all, so if you make a choice that stops that, it is essentially just a "bad end" which should be avoided in a game where you have to catch hundreds of mons.

Let's talk about our ideas for console games

I had the idea for a game where Mewtwo is the main character
The first part you're playing as a scientist, this part ends when you've captured Mew. This should take about 15 mins.
Then comes a clipshow about the scientist cloning Mew.
Then you play as a young Mewtwo while they're doing different tests of intellect and behaviour on it. this part acts as an tutorial
Then another clip and next thing you know, Mewtwo's all grown up, and he's breaking out of the lab
You now have to fight your way out, and then look for some place to hide, this will end in Cerulean Cave
The game would be third person of course, and Mewtwo would have various attacks maybe also levels and new moves upon leveling

A different idea i had is basically a Dragon age, just with pokemon
You get a choice between a handfull of pokemon, and depending on which you choose, the story starts differently
The world will be very humanoid, but inhabited by pokemon only
i guess it's a mix of Dragon age and Mystery Dungeon

if already making a first person action, there should be more place to consider the other aspects of pokemon
1. leveling up and move decisions
2. team building
3. evolution
should include EV as well.
Can you think on an action game that include those aspects?

also it should be a little more than just jump and kill. perhaps adding an element of stealth, tough that been done to death. but playing an assasin pokemon might be fun. there are other elements, but i'm not much nto first person action beside ninja games so i don't have many ideas.

well now that i think about it, i can take a game i recently played as an example to action- based pokemon game

1. mmo. you create a char by selecting a basic pokemon. as you advance the game you can preorm subquests to unlock more pokemons to create-or, you know, buy them online, because thats how mmos work
2. side scrolling with platforms
3. equiping moves on quick buttons. only 4 moves can be equiped, but many can be learned.
4. pvp mode.

yes, i think i could totally play an action pokemon game like that.
not that there is anything wrong with the current games or something.

Like they're going to make an alternate series just because we feel estranged. It wouldn't even be possible because to even attempt to appeal to such an audience, one has to dump the cartoony stuff and more focus on action and junk. Some of that would have to change the premise of pokemon from the ground up. The only way that's going to happen is if we do it ourselves. You will only see it in words. (yeah, sorry, intelligent fantasy creatures just aren't mature)

I don't think the digimon games failed because of complexity. At least not in most cases. The original, I can see that, you can easily fail to meet the requirements for an evo, and even if you do, you can randomly not get what you wanted. The other games just weren't what people wanted to play, even though you could control how things evo better. The DS games are almost a copy of pokemon in their nature.

I get a huge boner over worldbuilding and there's SO much stuff in pokemon that you could explore to flesh out the world more. Loads of questions about how their world came to be, how their tech developed, stuff like that. XY taunts you with the castles and AZ's whole backstory and the war, but they're only ever really mentioned in passing and not developed very much.

That sort of wasted potential.

I mean fuck, just look what happened to TF2. Take an arena shooter game and build a huge world and backstory around it

Looker's always got good sidequests

Because they don't need to be developed? Newsflash, anon, that war happened 3000 years before the current events in the game. What did you want out of that to be developed?

There was a war, AZ fucked over everybody by killing them all, felt remorse, ended up as a wanderer. What's there not to get? What's there to develop?

Except that "huge world" and "backstory" are never seen in the actual game, and are just supplanted by periodic comics that are sent out with updates. Whereas Pokemon already has a story and world in the game itself.

Why would you want this? There are games like Final Fantasy that cover this need for edgyness, pokémon is so successful for exactly that reason; it isn't your generic "evil lord takes over the world you are the chosen one" RPG

i don't think the barbarism in the games you mentioned is fit for kids. just because there is plenty of killing doesn't mean it isn't for children. however, if it has unecessery scantly clad chicks than its target audiance is 15~, which means that game is for children.
