Is Volcarona viable this gen? If so, what set is best? I want to use it on my team because muh bros but I don't have much knowledge about what the metagame is like nowadays.

Volcarona will do better this gen than last now that stealth rocks have been limited back, it also resists Fairy and has good coverage.

I run Modest with Max S.Atk and Speed
Life Orb
Flamethrower
Giga Drain
Hurricane
and Bug Buzz

That means he does well against rain teams, sun teams and against substitute unless it's Gliscor

Pretty straightforward - seek opportunity to set up QD, then sweep. Fire move of choice for STAB, Bug Buzz for STAB and to fuck with Subs, last move depends on your needs - be it coverage or healing/survivability

Volcarona is a potent and threatening Pokemon. That hasn't changed. With a Quiver Dance up he can really go on a rampage. He does not, however, appreciate all the SE Priority flying around this Gen. Talonflame in particular ruins his day, striking him hard on his lower, unboosted Defense stat without fearing a Flame Body burn. You want to use Volcarona? Pack an answer to Talonflame. The bird isn't AS omnipresent as it was earlier in the metagame's life but he is always going to be around because he does a valuable job and does it well.

Talonflame is one of my favorite Pokemon, Volcarona is one of my friend's favorites. He's not too pleased that the first new bro 'mon I picked up this gen turned out to be a perfect answer to his old stalwart.
