I'd prefer it as Ground/Bug, personally. The dragon typing is nice but it isn't particularly amazing offensively (especially now with the fairies), and the only other Ground/Bug Pokemon are either NFE (Nincada) or shitmons (Wormadam). The main reason people think like this is because it is totally outclassed by Garchomp as a fast Dragon/Ground type.

The problem with this and Flygon is that their primary typing would be changed.
They flying / ground respectively before becoming dragons. They'd have to be retconned to fairies and that'd be weird.

Gogoat had some weird but pretty cool level up moves, not going to lie

I know the latter makes sense but it was weird seeing on mine at first, especially as it had Synthesis, all them healing moves it got.

Why do you need variety when you get a 90BP move with 100 accuracy, and a secondary effect that allows it to get boosts from Sheer Force? Ground is primarily a physical type, anyway.

I just want the ability to choose between hitting hard or having immunity to ground. I like having Flygon as a Ground/Dragon, and don't want to give it Stealth Rock weakness or neutrality just because Trapinch is a bug.

Trapinch loses Sheer Force because it has no need for it when it evolves. As an antlion larva, it has to clamp onto prey and finish it off quickly once it falls inside its pit. Vibrava can now fly and feed normally. This is also why Trapinch undergoes an attack reduction when it evolves to Vibrava.
