I was just reading the new rules... The Special Battle Season 4 rules have been announced. This season begins from May 13th 2014 and runs until July 15th. The Special Battle rules are different from the last two, no longer following standard VGC rules. This season of Special Battle is now a Single Battle with Inverse Battle type chart for the first time in any multiplayer mode. You can use any Pokémon from the National Pokédex except for Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde. Like other Battle Spot Single Battles, you have to choose 3 of your 6 Pokémon Does this mean non pentagon pokes are allowed to compete now? Or just that any national dex pokemon with a pentagon can compete?

I've actually never hacked. I'm just curious if the days of pentagon only pokes are coming to an end.

>>19007503 >muh 5th gen only moves >muh 5th gen only non-breedables Even if you're a scrub who hates all legends, you have to admit certain Pokemon are nothing without certain move tutors. It's not just about hacks.

m-muh swagger too

>>19007493 so, strategies to counter a mega-kang that's only weak to ghost (except ghosts are weak to normal type as well)?
but i'll definitely be playing this, should be interesting.

>>19008377 it gets foul play as an egg move, i have a gen 6 mandibuzz with foul play

>>19007493 The Phione ban makes me laugh every time. I mean, ok, most things on that list are either OP or one off/hard to obtain, like Land Shaymin. But a breedable Pokemon with the same spread as Glalie? At least Glalie gets Moody.

>>19008411 >strategies to counter a mega-kang that's only weak to ghost Your best bet is Rocky Helm Avalugg (and use your own Mega Kangaskhan.) Despite Avalugg's bulk Kangaskhan can still blast through it with +2 Returns, but it'll take a lot of damage from Rocky Helm and Avalanche to the point where you can RK it with Talonflame or something.
Showdown has an inverse ladder and it's Avalugg: the experience. Physical attacks just don't work on it, if it was any other type than fucking Ice it'd be top tier OU. Use it on every team, along with Chansey: in inverse, this core makes Skarmbliss look like shit.

>>19008462 It's still considered an event legendary, as it's not obtainable within the normal game. And really, people who are talking about it just want to run their mouth and would never want to use Phione in battle.
It's about as ridiculous that it's banned in official formats as it is that Black Kyurem is running rampart in that fansite metagame.
Anonymous
>>19008659 KyuB is not uber because it doesn't have a good physical movepool, it's a sad slow and Ice is just that bad. It's a big threat but it's not overwhelmingly powerful like the banned stuff is.

Somebody post an inverse battle type chart. How do resistances work?
Anonymous
>>19008722 Resistances and immunities turn into weaknesses
Weaknesses turn into resistances
Neutral stays neutral
Very simple.
Anonymous
>>19008739 Right, I meant how do immunities work.
So there aren't any immunities in inverse?
Anonymous

>>19008757 I'm not 100% sure but things like Water Aborb might still work.
But yeah stuff loses their natural immunities.

>>19008713 It has Outrage and Fusion Bolt, which is a great physical Electric move with no drawback. It also learns Rock Slide and Stone Edge. And that off 170 base Atk.
Freeze Shock is hard to use with its charge-up turn, but you can easily throw in Ice Beam or Blizzard (for hail teams). 120 base SpA makes it no slouch as a mixed attacker.
95 Speed isn't slow either, though it does get outsped by stuff like Mence and Garchomp. But a Scarf can fix that, if it bothers you.
The Gen IV cover legends don't have the most expansive move pools either. And Zekrom has a worse physical move pool and only one less resistance than Black Kyurem, all of which are to common types.

>>19008806 *one less weakness than Black Kyurem

It means you can use any Pokemon, they just have to be Kalos Born. The last Special season was Kalos Dex only.

>>19008757 there are no type immunities but there are still ability immunities
so heatran is still immune to fire moves, for example, but if you suppressed its ability, it would be x4 weak to them

>>19008855 shit no, it would be neutral to fire
fucking type chart is already making me confused
Anonymous
>>19008855 what about dry skin parasect
dry skin keeps its x1.25 but it would resist x4 fire so it would turn out as x5/16 damage?

But now it absorbs what would be super-effective Water. Water Absorb and Sap Sipper will turn into even greater abilities too.

>>19008573 Oh god, Avalansey. Black Kyurem would shred it, but it's banned from this competition. I guess LO Ice Beam Mamoswine will have to do...
>>19008806 Zekrom has a secondary Physical STAB that isn't resisted by Steel.
>>19012158 There is almost no reason to run Stealth Rocks in Inverse Battles. Why are you even bringing that up for this format.

>>19012338 Okay, so for inverse battles, Wall Whacker Mamoswine should probably run something like this:
Mamoswine@Life Orb
Thick Fat
Naughty nature
252 HP/252 ATK/ 6 Sp. ATK
Earthquake
Ice Beam
Knock Off
Thrash/Return/physical Ice STAB of choice
Mamoswine actually has a great Defensive typing for Inverse battles, only being weak to Poison and Electric, while packing six resistances with Thick Fat. Ice Beam OHKOes Avalugg after a single layer of Spikes damage, while Avalugg's Avalanche fails to do any meaningful damage thanks to Thick Fat. Knock Off cripples Chansey, putting it in Earthquake's kill range. M-Kanga will probably kill you, though it won't enjoy switching in before going Mega and actually needs some prior damage to do the job. You'll need something like Mega Gengar to kill the Kanga quickly.
