Obviously it works very well on a trick room team because Amphy is so slow. For that I run volt switch on it and it's very good, you just need the right support.
I've been trying to look in to other ways to use it and if you can set cotton guard up on it or even agility it's a beast. It can sweep a lot of things if it can just hit first. Set up even 1 cotton guard and it can take hits incredibly well. I guess setting up screens is another option too. Or you could speed boost then baton pass to Amphy.
I know people say not to run a fast Ampharos but I wanna try it and see what it can do. If it had a Timid nature and 252 in speed it would actually outspeed a lot of things in OU, including threats like Azumarill and Tyranitar. It can take hits from Talonflame and Aegislash easily. Things like Garchomp and Megamom are another story, but again if you set up screens or cotton guard it can deal with them. If you also ran a Bold Amphy it could survive an earthquake/outrage from Garchomp and then OHKO it.
Another option is to run bold with 100HP/252Def/152SpA. It can take a hit from a lot of things and then OHKO when it strikes. I guess a moveset I'd be thinking would be Tbolt-Dragon Pulse-Cotton Guard/Agility-Focus Blast.
Apart from the trick room running the standard set of modest with 252HP/252SpA I haven't tried the rest, they are just things I've been thinking about and doing out calculations to see if this guy is more flexible. I definitely want to try them sometime soon. But the first set does work pretty well, I've been using it myself and had a lot of success.
