When I was young, Pokémon was clear and simple.
No items, natures, abilities, IVs and EVs, no Steel-, Dark- or Fairy-type, and best of all, no Mega Evolutions.

Not trying to break >>>/vp/rules/4 here but Generation I was incomplete. Generation II fixed it, and yes, that involved adding Dark and Steel types, etc.

Genwunners isnt about growing up with it anymore, I have heard 4th graders tak about how "genwun is the best" and how it "should of ended at gen 2"
Now its more of the main thing that causes people to only like genwun without playing the other games is other people only liked gen1 and havent palyed the other games.
20 years from now we are going to have peoples who first games was gen 6 saying shit like "ORIGINAL 150 ARE THE BEST IT SHOULD OF ENDED AFTER GEN 2"

Gen 1 was good not only because it was relatively simple in mechanics, but also because most of us were unaware of them. In Gen 1 and 2 I'd pick something that looked cool and have a blast, but nowadays my OCD kicks in and suddenly it's Bike Simulator 3DS. Knowing that my bros will always be looked down upon for having less than 3 IVs is disheartening, compared to "I WANT TO USE XATU BECAUSE IT HAS A CAT FACE ON IT"

tldr Gen 1 was good because we didn't fret over the details and had fun with our bros

I rate them by fun. not by story or any multiple categories, they all factor into fun for me and so i like gen 2 best. Gen 1 was too broken to be any good and besides fixing it before yellow released they just took the easy way out

Gen 2 and 3 also had great ones but silph co, pokemon tower and seafoam islands were legitimately challenging and fun. gen 6 fucked up big time in this department and i think this aspect of the game is often overlooked and under appreciated.

That would have some implications for link battles between R/B and Yellow. Also, it didn't even matter because Gen 1 only had Lick for a Ghost move damage that would be modifiable by effectiveness.

Let's all face it genwunners are hipsters who think Pokemon went mainstream and only like the "cool" original ones.

In reality like every successful series every game added more depth and built off the other ones. Making Pokemon a better game overall. It still needs some tweaks here and there but, if we kept it the same for twenty years the same people would be bitching there were no changes and it got old.
