PIcked Chespin for my first playthrough. For Pokemon Z though, I might have to go with Fennekin (since I got Chespin and Froakie in my Y) unless Z introduces an awesome mega evolution for Chesnaught or Greninja.

The Fennekin line has the best three stages. Consider,

Actually, he makes a lot of sense if you look at it outside the box. The Chespin line are obviously Space Marines from the Dark Angels chapter.

Chespin = Scout
Quilladin = Tactical
Chesnaught = Terminator

Look at the colouring. Chespin is the least armoured; his arour is green and you can see his natural skin colour. Quilladin then armours up, like a scout passing to tactical rank. Chesnaught then bulks up further, and switches to the colours of the Deathwing, becoming a bone primary instead of the green.

Definitely Froakie.
When they were first revealed, I liked Froakie and Chespin, but the frog was my favourite.
And when they revealed Quilladin and Frogadier, I knew I was going to pick Froakie. When Chesnaught and Greninja were revealed, although I was at first disappointed by the tongue scarf, I thought it looked awesome.
