You have to turn psychic-type from one of the least appealing types, to one of the most if not THE MOST appealing type to use.

>You can change exisiting psychic-type pokemon (movepool, abilities and stats)
>You can create new psychic-type pokemon.
>You can change psychic's strenghts and weaknesses on the type chart.

Make a fast Psychic-type with a priority Psychic and a priority Fairy-type move.
Also give it good enough special attack to where it can use Flamethrower to not get walled by Steel-types.

Psychic now has a 40% chance to knock away a non-contact move an opponent uses on that turn.
E.g, Alakazam used Psychic and Gengar used Shadow Ball. There will be a 40% chance to knock SB away

Steel loses its resistance to Psychic, but now Bug resists Psychic.
Psychics resists fairy and poison.
Fairy is hit SE by Psychic.
Nerf Knock Off so it's 70 BP but doesn't get a damage boost when removing an item (buff Night Slash to 80 BP or something.)

well we can make psychic more popular by making it's victims more fearsome. like, maybe introduce a new type that is weak to poison. it's even better if that new type has OP traits like immunity to dragon or some shit. oh wait-

Also, dark and steel may be bad to psychics, but BOTH are weak to fighting, making fighting more popular and thuse making psychic more popular.

tl;dr you can't fix what isn't broken.

I was thinking something along the lines of psychic getting a similar gimmick to grass (imunity to spores) or ghost (no effect of trapping)
My idea:
All stat boosts/reductions are doubled if the pokemon is psychic type

Psychic is ok as it is.

It's not a defensive type, but offensive type.
it relies on stats more than it relies on type advantages. that way, even tough only poison and fightinng are weak to it, many pokemon afraid it's combination of speed+ sp.atk, with good moveset to boost.

Also, it's victims are quite popular- fighting for its steel and dark (and rock, ice and normal, but thoe two since those are the only thing that can stand against psychic offense) and poison for toxic accuracy and fairy pawnage.

Syncronoise 180 BP and becomes a sound based move
Amplifier: sound attack boosting ability
Calm mind cures confusion in Psychic type pokemon
Brain wave 40BP SPEC. has priority
Calculate: if opponent has any of the moves that the pokemon has, they may not use those moves for the rest of the battle
Miracle Blast: 75BP SPEC SE on Dark type. 10% confusion .

I like the calm mind idea, but only if it doesn't cure confusion until it's used, so you could still hit yourself before using it.
