Hey /vp/ I am writing an academic research paper on Twitch Plays Pokemon. Specifically, I will only be addressing the original play through of Red version.

I will be discussing the topoi of emergent democratic storytelling and meme culture. This will involve analysis of religious themes and metanarratives.

What do you think is valuable to discuss in terms of TPP?

but being an engineer grad like myself I like to study the mob mentality and view the spectral densities of decisions made per whatever sampling rate I choose and see if filters can be applied to such 'signals'

because essentially all the joke/troll commands can be viewed as noise while all the legit decisions being made are valuable data somewhere in the frequency spectrum of the thing

you can actually view democracy as an averaging filter for example

w/e this is nonsense rambling
anyway, I wouldn't do this paper cause I'd probably regret it later down the road when I'm trying to go to sleep one night
and suddenly the thought pops into my head and my face burns up
"why did I do that paper my god"
and smash my face against the pillow

Actually you'd be surprised by what interests many academic fields, especially film and rhetoric, which are primarily dominated by either old upper crusty stuff you'd assume (Lincoln Speeches, movies pre 1950) or off the walls hyper-new microprojects where TPP is pretty important.

This notion of mob mentality is central to the works of Deleuze and Guattari who feature prominently in my work. Your assumption there can be abjectly "legit" decisions derives from a belief in transcendent narrative progression which TPP complicates. The method you're discussing to divide the data is itself immensely useful, and that frame is good for categorizing the data, but I think it sidesteps the question of motivation.

Well, most everyone on TPP seems to really hate democracy mode, but it was sometimes required for them to pass certain milestones. Also, there were plenty of people intentionally sabotaging the feed with bad commands.

It's actually a really interesting case of Anarchy in action, there are the people who follow along to make the system work, there's the fags who try to take control of everything, and there's the fags that ruin the whole thing for everybody by not doing what they're supposed to do.
