I really don't understand what the problem with this is. It was a buff to Charmander, not Charizard. Normally you'd have to catch another pokemon to counter Brock. With the other two, you don't have to do that.

If Squirtle or Bulbasaur had gotten to evolve and have kickass episodes like Charizard, they would be equally popular, but nope. They had to keep them cute to sell plushes.

It's a real shame because Blastoise could have had some really awesome episodes and storylines but they were too busy sucking that Charizard horn to give a shit, the best Squirtle got was a sendoff firefighting episode, Jesus Christ.

And it can never be undone because the anime isn't nearly as popular anymore. Now every other starter especially Blastoise and Venusaur are just going to continue being pushed to the wayside for more fucking Charizard shit because MUH SEISMIC TOSS

Bulbasaur has the easiest time with most of the gyms except Sabrina and Blaine, Squirtle has some advantages and some weaknesses mid game and kicks ass at the end, and Charmander can't do shit to most of the gym leaders except Erika.

Remember how they used to say that Bulbasaur was for beginning trainers and Charizard was very difficult to handle?

It's anecdotal but I remember when I was a kid and the games first came out there were lots of arguments between whether Blastoise or Charizard were cooler, with Venusaur just barely missing out due to being a fatass. But then Charizard evolved on the show and every single time he came out everyone on screen was sucking his cock talking about how kickass he was, and the kids picked up on it and that's when I remember the Charizard popularity starting.

Bulbasaur was good for beginners because you could almost solo the game with it if you were a kid.

Squirtle could do most of the work but you needed to get some support if you were gonna beat all the gyms.

Charmander basically forced you to catch other Pokemon and train them up as much as your starter.

I can't even begin to describe how agitated I was when Charzard X became a thing. Y was actually great in my eyes, but X is just such pandershit I knew that megas were going to be a popularity contest with a few pokemon who actually deserve them getting thrown a bone here and there. I could deal with two mega mewtwos but the favoritism they gave to charzard this gen is just revolting.

Popular pokemon that are mascots and are part of the identity of pokemon get more attention because that gets more people excited and make more money for nintendo.

This was in just about every player's guide from back in the day, anon. It's almost like it's an understood fact among players of Gen I.

Not only that, but in FRLG before you pick your starter, Oak even tells you 'This one is easy to raise' or 'This one takes time to mature' or something along those lines to reference the difficulty associated with the use of that starter.
