I'm encouraged to say Gen IV too. Snivy's top tier, the whole fire-fighting three times in a row killed an otherwise alright Tepig, and while Oshawott is retarted, Samurott is at least decent.

Gen I still the best followed by Gen II. Bit of a power gap after that.

both IV and V are kinda bad, I only like the Chimchar line and Emboar(not much the pre-evos) I know fire/fighting is repetitive but they have nice designs and I like bipedal 3rd evos.

That's because Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle are THE starters. They were the first starters so they started the whole trend. No matter how you look starters for new Gens, they're not the originals and will probably always feel like they're not as good as they could be.

Having said that, Gen IV had the worst designs. Gen VI still look really good to me, but I could still be biased as they're new.

It's just got so much unnecessary hype around it and is far too reminiscent of a DBZ character on top of being furry-fuel. I just kinda have a bad taste about it in my mouth. No reason for you not to like it though, I get why it's so liked.

Serperior is alright, but I like Snivy better.

I don't like Samurott though. Oshawott is kawaii as fuck as Dewott is pretty cool, but Samurott doesnt feel like a natural progression.

I liked that the secondary types were SE against the secondary types in the same order that the primary types were SE, but I think gen 6 did that better.
Namely because Empoleon's typing gives it neutral defense against grass. Also just about all water types can learn ice moves which fucks up Torterra x4. Thoughtless imo.

Gen 6 was done really well though(before taking Protean into account). Grass and Fighting both 2xSE against Water/Dark. Water and Dark both 2xSE against Fire/Psychic. Fire and Psychic both 2xSE against Grass/Fighting.

I'd like to see Fire/Steel Water/Fighting Grass/Fairy

Serperior? Lilligant shits all over it and Ferrothorn actually kills things (and takes a hit).

Emboar? Chandelure and Darmanitan are quicker, though Emboar is the best starter out of the three.

Samurott? Seismitoad, Jellicent, Carracosta, fuck even Swanna.

The starters were just so horribly mediocre compared to the others we got.

If we're talking about strictly first stage, I agree with OP. All three of those choices at the beginning of 5th gen were hideous.

But the final stages are all pretty decent. I think Gen 6 was the worst in that regard, despite 3 of the best first stage starters since Gen 2.

When will we get another batch of bomb ass starters? Gens 1 through 4 were killing it, then Gen 5 was super iffy and now this Gen 6 trash. The starters are so important you'd think they'd be sure to get them just right. These last two batches were lackluster as fuck.

Overall, I'd say Gen 2 was the worst for me, though at the very least each one had at least one decent choice. I've yet to come across a Gen were I hated all three.

I know early on (and even long afterward) people thought he could/should have been a grass/dragon in his final stage of evolution. Most of the arguments against that cited dragon as being too powerful a typing for a starter.

Gen 6 gave us a fire/dragon mega form for Charizard and introduced fairy-types to counter dragons. Do you think in the future we'll see a starter that evolves into a permanent dragon?

I'd probably switch 3 and 4 around, but otherwise I agree with you. Gen 4 had solid designs and typings overall, but I think Gen 3 edged them out a little bit.

Swampy was my favourite of the Hoenn starters, but I liked all three. I feel sorry for Sceptile, though. The physical/special split in Gen 4 was a welcome change, but it hurt it a lot more than it helped.
