If GF is smart at all they're gonna fix stuff like the water problem by changing the geography with the excuse of Groudon and Kyogre's fight altering the region. These will definitely be sequels, not straight remakes.

It's been 10 years. Hoenn is not currently playable on this gen of consoles. It's a "dramatic new world" for the 3ds and the target audience

New region, only thing connecting it with Hoenn is Groudon and Kyogre have moved there and Birch/May/Brendan are researchers/gymleaders/champions w/e. Talisman from X/Y comes from here. The stuff that the tourist described like the waterfall are linked to Groudon and Kyogre.

For the target demographic of this series, R/S/E don't exist so these games are brand new to them.

It's new for everyone who only has a 3DS, it's new for anyone younger than 15

In other words it's new for the kids who are playing Pokemon these days
These remakes aren't just for us oldfags who want nostalgia, it's for the kids who can't buy the originals in stores (or play them without buying an older system, and they wouldn't want to divert attention away from the 3DS)

The water itself was fine. The biggest problem was the lack of diversity, in Pokemon and the environment. Pic related.

We're bound to get more Pokemon diversity. Hopefully, they'll just flesh out some of the routes more. Maybe throw in more dive areas, an oil rig, underwater caves, more islands, etc.
