Nintendo still is pushing DS.
The difference between G/S/C getting a remake and R/S/E getting a remake is that even if you had the original Gameboy Color G/S/C games.

R/S/E are the first games that have forward compatibility enabled. All you need to do is find a cheap DS Phat, transfer to D/P/Pl or HG/SS, move it to BW/BW2 then move it again to X/Y.

As for G/S/C, there is NO WAY for you to move your Pokemon from that version over to your latest Pokemon version. There is no Gameboy Color to Gameboy Advanced device. It just can't happen.

There comes a point where transferring Pokemon, while still possible, becomes incredibly tedious. If they can make money off new games while simultaneously updating outdated mechanics and giving us easier access to all the mons in Hoenn, then they'll do it. Whether you like it or not, marketing is mainly what drives effort to make games, even if they're technically not needed.

And if these games fail? We've got nothing to complain about on the internet because they still happened. No skin off our nose if Nintendo doesn't make money off them.

Your marketing logic doesn't support R/S/E remakes though. It only shows that Pokemon is willing to make more Pokemon games.
