The remakes are going to feature alternate timelines in which the protagonist of RSE failed to stop either Kyogre or Groudon. Depending on which version you get, Hoenn will either be flooded almost entirely or have gone through a tremendous drought. The story sees you attempt to make things right and return Hoenn to its natural state.
