A character that was never officially refered to as Kris anywhere except as one of many default name options in the game was given brown hair instead of clue because it was a GS remake instead of a Crystal remake. They didn't replace shit, they just gave her official name and died her hair.

No, I'm saying that some people will go apeshit the same way they did when they found out Rue from Hunger Games was black. Aside from the fact that most of them were just plain racist, a lot of them were disappointed that she didn't fit with their preconceptions of what she was like/how they imagined her.
