I have noticed a trend that Pokemon Centre Lady and Pokemon Fan Club seem to be extremely rare compared to the other FA cards. Your cases add weight to that.

... that's actually an error, I pulled 2 Lady and 3 Fan Club out of the 2 cases. So 37 EXs and 17 Full Arts in total, kinda wished I'd open even less Magnezones though

From my 2 cases it appears that the nominal average it is 1 Gold Mega EX for every 3 boxes, at least I actually opened both Secret Charizards this time around unlike what happened in Plasma Storm of opening only Random Receiver and Blastoise for my Shinys

It's official so you're not going to find old cards on it. And tons of people play because you get codes in real life booster packs and decks. It's always easy to find a match. Don't thin tournaments are a thing yet, though.

For the time being, yes. The program is kinda terribly built, in an eternal beta version, so they aren't taking full advantage of it yet. Tournaments are in alpha testing now, so don't expect much on that front either. But if you're looking for casual games in the modified format, it's alright. Check out TCGOne too if you don't want to spend money.

See the picture in the OP, it was from when DRX was released. See this one too, it's from the original, Flash version. All those stylistic changes are of very minor importance to my eyes. They had gotten the visual aspect correct from the beginning, it looks like they're wasting resources to fix what doesn't need fixing. What needs to be done asap is a revamp of the trading system which is absolutely terrible atm, with no real search options, needing to click on offers to see what's being traded, etc. as well as implement gems (or another way to buy shit in the game) correctly, but who knows when that is planned to happen.

Next Destinies: Only pulled 2 Emboars and 2 Hydreigons (2 cases) so I had to trade for the Chandelure and Zoroark

Dark Explorers: Whiff on the Catcher (1 case)

Dragons Exalted: Opened 4 Krokoodiles (Also opened the Rayquaza and Reuniclus for a total of 6 in 2 cases), ended up selling 2 of them and traded one for Serperior to complete out the set

None to be honest. Sixprizes is the only "big" site left and you have to play $15 per month to actually read the higher quality articles. The rest are pretty unimpressive. There are a few smaller sites, more like players' blogs, that aren't bad, but don't have daily content. arollofthedice.net is one of the better ones.

Your best bet is thetopcut.net though. Pooka uploads videos almost daily, detailing all kinds of decks and you get to see them in action, see his thought process through the game, etc. The guy is practically running the site on his own but he's doing a great job.

eBay, look for lots of 100+ codes so that you get a better price per code. Also look up the "Virbank City" facebook groups and join their Pokémarts, people sell for good prices there.

Damn, Flashfire is such a good set, so many interesting cards. Too bad they are basically all useless because of cards like Yveltal-EX. Evil Ball will dominate even after Dark Patch gets rotated and make 90% of cards unviable because he punishes high energy costs of all things, as if a high energy cost on an evolution in itself isn't already a huge drawback. So much for a fresh and diverse XY-on format.

Don't go by type, go by strategy. If you feel a card can add something to your deck's strategy without requiring too much effort, its type doesn't matter. Look up Plasma decks for example, Thundurus EX, Deoxys EX, Kyurem, Genesect EX and Absol are all different types but can work together.

As for Dark, Yveltal EX is clearly the best Dark-type 'mon right now so you'll probably build a deck around that. Common partners are Darkrai EX which provides free retreat and can be a great secondary attacker, Absol and Bouffalant can be used as non-EX attackers, Sableye and Yveltal can be used as support 'mons to help you set up. Since Yveltal EX doesn't need any abilities to work, you can play Garbodor to shut off the opponent's abilities too.

Their value is determined by a number of factors. Mainly rarity, play-ability, popularity, etc.

Absolutely not. Underwhelming EXes featuring underwhelming Pokemon like Emolga EX can fetch for very little. Radiant Collection EXes like Meloetta and Shaymin are very cheap. Playable and rare EXes without any promo substitutes like Genesect and Virizion can fetch a lot of money.

It depends on what the normals and full arts are. Two Genesect EX for a FA Yveltal sounds reasonable. Two Regigigas EX doesn't. On the flip side, I wouldn't trade two Raikou EX for a FA Jirachi EX.

Generally the prices listed on trollandtoad are the cheapest and the gold standard. The sold listing on ebays as well. Granted, prices aren't anything set in stone since they don't take into account player preferences and people willing to be impatient and overpay / patient and underpay.

If you're trading for the online game, then it's a bit different. Anything collectible loses a lot of its value online; playablility is the main governing factor. Usually if you search for a card, you'll see a number of trades asking for or selling packs for that card. You usually want to go a bit over that price if selling and a bit under if buying. If you're patient, you can get virtually anything on ptcgo.

Also, never open packs on ptcgo, always trade them.

That's why I said without requiring too much effort. If you try a card and see that it forces you deviate from your strategy instead of working along with it, it's most likely bad for your deck. Adding, for example, Garbodor, a Psychic Pokémon, to Yveltal doesn't mean you have to add Psychic energy too since you only play it for its ability. If you're starting now, look up some of the top decks and see what Pokémon they usually run and how they manage their energy lines.

The problem with the pack trades is that people try to rip you off more often than not, even I can tell that. It's hard to figure out what the real value is, especially in the cases where the particular card I have is barely on the trade at all (and not for packs either).

Case in point: Heatran EX FA. I see plenty of regulars going around.

Of course I need to decide exactly what I want in my deck in the first place, but getting some Yveltal and Darkrai EX should be a nice start. The regulars, anyway, I dont like most FA.

Im not sure if I can think up some kind of strategy out of the blue though. Maybe something with Plasma pokes/energies? For simplicity's sake though I might just stick to Dark for a little while and get used to that and expand and replace as I go.

So first things first, I probably need some Yveltal and Darkrai EX. Now I'm going to assume that just one wont cut it and dropping in 4 of each may give me other issues, so how do I balance that kind of thing?

I just tried playing the online TCG after playing the gameboy color game since I like it. I've noticed that the AI players are maximum retard even on hard mode. They use switch multiple times in a turn for no reason and stack 8+ energy cards on a benched pokemon while their active one has nothing.

Should I expect every opponent in PVP to be stacked with EX cards that are ready in one turn and can one-shot everything I own? Because that seems to be the case.

If you're going to have a lot of card-draw cards, wouldn't it make more sense to put them back into the deck so you dont run out (then again, games are fairly short, so meh)
What about caitlin, or whatever the one is that has you put X cards on the bottom of your deck?

12 energy seems very little, considering Im always low on the stuff with the theme deck, but I'm guessing the support cards help with that?

If you're needing to get a new hand, it generally means you DON'T want the stuff that's currently in your hand. Further, Drawing 7 means you get more new options to work with.

(Though Personally I like shauna as secondary one over skyla)

Also, it's general practice to run about 10-14 energy in your deck, as you don't need that much, and can generally get away with things like Super Rod, Energy Retrieval and the like to get more energy.

Though for your deck specifically, you have the card DARK PATCH, which lets you take a dark energy from your discard and attach it to one of your pokemon, which lets you recycle lost dark energy (it also alleviates junipers a bit).

The main reason you're running it is for the move 'Junk Hunt', which allows you to recur 2 trainers from your graveyard, meaning you can grab back your dark patches, Ace Spec, Catchers, or even your supporters if they're in the discard.

That said, when cyrus pops up, he can give you some help with plasma decks, which are similarly straightforward.

Just read through what each of these cards does and you'll be fine (also, you can choose to run fan club to get ALL your pokemon, since you're not running any evolutions)

Sableye just recovers Items, not all kinds of Trainers. It can recover Supporters indirectly by getting back Random Receiver or Dowsing Machine though.

Have you gone through the trainer challenge with the 3 basic decks? The red one has 2 Juniper and 2 Ultra Ball and the green one has 2 Random Receiver and 2 Bicycle, all cards your deck could use.

Other than that, you need to cut the extra Pokémon lines (Malamar, Krookodile, Miltank) and replace them with more useful trainers. Dark Patch and Muscle Band are probably the most important ones to look for as well as an Ace Spec. Hypnotoxic Laser and Virbank City Gym are also extremely useful if you can get them.

Also, it doesn't matter what it says on the card, all Pokémon Catcher require a coin flip now.

I run mainly either a monotype dark or monotype colorless deck when I play on TCGO, typically on an unlimited mainly because I am lazy and haven't bought a lot of the newer packs.

My dark deck focuses on frustrating the opponent, and has a pretty high win % (even against fighting decks, fuck those things).

Ditto. KO Milotic, attach 3 energy to Ditto, transform Ditto into an EX.
Or use it with FF Shiftry. Dunno if any of those ideas are worth it though. Most of the "good" EX's have better energy acceleration than Milotic and Shiftry is a stage 2 with a somewhat unreliable attack.

But when we did a Flashfire pre-release, it was about 25% kids, 75% teens/adults.

Spoils will soon be joining it because I found a tournament prep kit for 50 bucks which comes with info manuals, 3 boxes worth of cards and even more spoils

That said, my box isn't as full as it should be and I need to start digging deeper to find more card games than I do have, especially since they're a lot cheaper.

(That also doesn't include living TCGs I still have cards for/play like YGO, Vanguard, Magic, Pokemon, and Kaijudo)

HPTCG should be fairly cheap (though I'm not sure if they've become scarce recently), some cards might run a bit of money though for the holofoil versions.

It was a fantastic game though, you always had a wizard or witch card on the field to start with, and they gave you an ability like placing extra lessons (energy) per action or making shit stronger. You got two actions per turn, and you could only play spells or creatures if you had enough lessons on the field (at least one of that card's type, and overall enough to satisfy the number of lessons needed), and the end result was to attack the opponent's deck until they decked out. Shit was insane, probably poorly thought out, but pretty fun. Highly recommend.

Yeh, I tried playing a lot of them when they were still alive, but couldn't get other people to play with me. That's half the reason I don't play L5R either.

And yeh, I expect buddyfight to go in the box eventually. Personally, I like myself the nova grapplers, but my deck is sorely out of date due to cost of updating or playing new clans.

That said, I might try out WS when we get the kill la kill deck. I was holding off on playing that game till we got a Tezuka series as a deck, but KLK has satisfied me enough to try it out.

Mostly because of ease of access. A pokemon with no attacks can be used by any deck, unless the abilities are keyed to attacks (and I'm unsure about how nice it would be to put 3 abilities on a mon that was stage 2 without just making it the 3 starter mon's abilities all put on one mon.)

EX already are strong and nullify other options because of the innate advantages of basics alone. While EX might be more splashable, they outperform evolutions so hard it pushes many options away. Not only do they replace other cards to use in a deck's strategy, they are very easy to tech in to counter other strategies as well. When they have a good attack and high HP on top of that it becomes just stupid, like with Deoxys, Darkrai, Keldeo and Virzion.

I'm happy that there are no abilities on any EX so far in XY or Flashfire, and at the same time more abilities on evolutions.

We needs Stage 2s with better attacks, and EXs with odd abilities that are utilitarian, but don't outperform stage 2s.

EXs just need to stop being beatsticks.

That said, a semi-generic stage 2 with 2 abilities akin to Greninja's and Delphox's would be pretty crazy due to internal synergy.

Tyranitar don't have a useable card since Stormfront. I miss my great TTar/Alakazam combo. TTar Prime was good, but they killed it not making good cards to combine. Really sad.

Good point, but I remember seeing Tyranitar Prime usage rise thanks to DEX's Dark-type support.

I suppose I should also mention EX Team Rocket Returns' Dark Tyranitars, they did well enough to get themselves into 2005 World Championships decks.

Here's the thing: I did some research a while ago when I saw outrageous trades for those on ptcgo and that promo zoroark hasn't been obtainable until now, but has been programmed into the game for a while. The little promo box it came from didn't have any sort of ptcgo code for it. I'm thinking people were posting outrageous trades for it just to fuck around with people since it was programmed into the game and actually something you could ask for in a trade but not something you could ever obtain. Same deal with stuff like the team plasma gift box FA promos.

It was actually obtainable. I've seen people claiming that the Italian version of that promo box actually came with a code but I can't confirm that. It was either that, or it randomly appeared in older packs. The HGSS Latias and Latios promos did appear in HGSS packs for no reason back in the flash version and are also going for ridiculous amounts of packs in trades.

Because they want you to buy physical packs. If you can get digital packs for a quarter or two, suddenly there's a much cheaper way to get cards and compete with them. That'd cut into their physical card sales.

I do think they could try getting away with $1-2 packs though.

The difference though is that Pokemon isn't looking to replace the physical game with the digital one, so even if digital sales are good, they want to ensure that the actual product is alive and selling well as it's the focus and it's what draws competitive players out to tournaments and makes them spend money.

All the codes I got from physical booster packs gave me crap, but all the reward boosters I get from doing the trainer challenges have been giving me gold, I've pulled FA Mew EX, both Black and White Kyurem EX, and FA Colress, yet I can't trade them for anything to make a deck for myself.... Canada, I checked out on the TCG website, and saw a couple other places in my city where they have Leagues. I don't know exactly what this shit means, but 1 lists Yveltal league as 4 players, the other has Yveltal league as 22.

Yes, the trainers are reverse holo Blacksmith and Fiery Torch. The Pyroar image is most likely a placeholder though, there's a japanese promo Pyroar which I believe we'll get in that box.
