Greetings fellow /tr/ainers! Lets talk names. I Wanna share my story first:
In my years since i was but 10 years old at the release of pokemon red and blue. In those days it was normally just me and my older brother battling and trading since gameboys were banned in our school. So we didn't really play with anyone else and we made a crazy agreement that him and i would have different pokemon from one another. which worked until we both found out about mewtwo which we both fucking wanted. so we agreed that one of us would HAVE to nickname theirs. my brother agreed to nickname his mewtwo. which he did.
We battled days after and i noticed he mentioned his mewtwo like it was more individual. I thought I'd do the same for my pokemon, i removed mewtwo from my team and replaced it with dragonite after i was able to get enough game coins for dratini.
I dunno about you guys but after that, all of my pokemon are more memorable and significant. I nickname all my pokemon, either after legends, or pagan deities, or something related to their types (I named my Gardevoir Titania and my Gallade's name is Oberon, Also all of my eeveelutions are named after former girlfriends and brief romantic encounters. So far I have
Espeon that was originally a gift pokemon from my first girlfriend that she IV bred and EV trained for me for a tournament i was going to enter. She said she named it after herself in a japanese My Espeon's name is Kairi.
Umbreon named after a girl i dated a few years later, sher wore a LOT of black (she wasn't goth either).
Vaporeon named after a girl whom i had a long crush on in college, had brief romantic encounter. I picked vaporeon because this girl was a scorpio (also means a water elemental)
Sylveon named after my pet name to the most girliest girl unlike any other. she also wore a bow on her head.
Anyone else have stories? :3 Are you For or Against nicknaming pokemon, why?
