Can anyone tell me what the discontinuation of Nintendo Wifi means for the DS Pokemon games? Does it mean we won't be able to transfer Pokemon from game to game anymore? Or does it just mean no more online trading/battling?

Anything local will still work, so you can still transfer all your Pokemon all the way from Ruby and Sapphire to X and Y if you have the correct systems.

It just means genned Pokemon can't be traded in gen 4 or 5. The individual who gen'd them can still transfer them to X/Y on their end and use GTS on there.

Aren't online Pokesavs that work through the GTS hosted on independent servers? I don't actually know, but I would have thought they could work even if Nintendo shut down their servers.

The game has to connect to the Internet through a shared WFC server before it contacts the dedicated servers for each specific game. Unless someone can figure out a way to spoof the WFC itself, the game won't be able to go online period.

I know the community for Mario Kart Wii was looking into spoofing the servers, or patching the game to work with custom servers, but I'm not sure if that could work for DS games or even all Wii games.
