How do rated battles work after a new game releases? Will the seasons from that point onwards only be playable on the new games, or will I still be able to use X/Y to play OR/AS users?

I always use remakes as secondary games for extra playthroughs and to soft reset for legends etc, so I'd rather just use my Y version for all the battling
