Except for fucking Delcatty, Wally could seriously have a threatening team (for an in-game opponent) in ORAS. And it's not like he was a total slouch in the originals to begin with.
This is awesome, I always really liked this kid. Hopefully you can fight him a couple of more times during the Story, instead of ONCE in Mauville and then never again until right before the E4. Having some battles with him with a Swablu, Magnemite, and Kirlia could be cool, just seeing his team expand and evolve throughout the game like other Rivals'.

If he got a sixth team member, what would it be? A Gallade to match his Gardevoir? Or some other Hoenn 'mon?

I think that depending on the player's gender, Wally will have a Ralts that evolves into the same gender-respective pokemon.
There will be Mega-Gallade, which becomes either Fighting/steel or fighting/fairy.

Then in the game you find out about his actual family, who left him to live in Kalos. Both of his parents, and his sister Diantha,

They should bring him up to main rival status with more battles with him throughout the game, also having him just happen to get the starter strong against yours at some point to fill out that last slot on his team, though with Gardevoir/Gallade still his ace. Your neighbor can get the one weak to yours, because you just know Game Freak's gonna wanna have the first trainer battle be skewed in your favor like Shauna was.

In ORAS, Hoenn won't have an acting Champion, so you get led into the Hall of Fame by Birch or Steven or something without a Champion battle after some long speech. But right before you can enter, Wally comes bursting through the door to challenge you for the title.

That's why it's funny. Waifu fags basically ruined a good mon with a good concept. It being Wally's protector was perfect, but just because of the hair/helmet, dress/ghosttails, and vaguely rounder then normal eyes, it became associated with being a floaty psychic waifu rather then a knight spirit thing.

You know, this really questions Pokemon maturity compared to humans. The events of Gen 3 couldn't have been more then a few months of time elapsed huh? That thing goes from Ralts to Gardevoir in less then the time it takes Wally to live for one year.

Blame the ones that tried to 'rationalize' Gallade's delayed introduction as a retcon of trapdevoir, despite that GF didn't gave a damn about genders at that time.

The fact that some trapdevoir fans began to viciously defend male Gardevoir by hating on Gallade only made it worse, as in doing so they preserved the notion that male Gardevoir VS Gallade is a certified go-to for shitstorms.

I liked Barry because he grew as a character, but Blue was better in the sense of a true rival.
That was my main issue with Gen 3: May/Brendan essentially quit and Wally had no real presence until the very end when most people forgot he existed, leaving a massive chunk near the middle/end of the game with no rival to speak of.

It's almost like they had two rivals that fulfilled the role of one. Instead of May's final fully-evolved battle, we get Wally turning up out of nowhere to fulfill that role.

It'd be nice to see both of them fleshed out as proper rivals.
