I think all the starters should be in the game. Yeah some of them'd be more awkward, but they'd be unique.

So each gen would have the three starters and then three non-starters, and an unlockable character usually a legendary.

How about every final stage Pokemon? I just think it's stupid that fighting games aren't allowed to have large rosters. They've made full 3d models of every single pokemon in all the other console games (stadium, colosseum, battle revolution) so only doing final stage Pokemon shouldn't be hard. Most fighting animations can be recycled between Pokemon (Lucario's close combat shouldn't have to look any different from Infernape's close combat).

Is there an obvious reason for why we can't just have every final stage Pokemon be a fighter in this game? Something other than "because that's not how fighting games work" or "because they won't have time to do that." If you say the latter, what exactly would be so time consuming?

We would prefer a fighting game in which the characters are not just blatant reskins of each other. The fighters should be a diverse group. The last thing we need is a Pokémon-themed Mortal Kombat.

The issue is that there is only so much data and time that you can use to create a fighting game and its playable roster. A fighting game character takes way more data than one pokemon on Pokemon X/Y.

It'd be awesome if every final stage pokemon got in, I'm not denying that, but realistically they're not all going to get in.

Come on, get creative. Everything being generic humanoid-shape is just boring for something like Pokemon with its varied designs. Claydol shooting long distance lasers, Whimsicott tossing cotton and substitutes around like Faust from Guilty Gear, Volcarona spinning around in one spot unleashing fiery scales like Fei Long's Shienkyaku, Aerodactyl swooping around biting and clawing at opponents. The possibilities are endless. We've seen unconventional-shaped fighters like Shuma Gorath and Phoenix Wright, who doesn't even throw a punch at all.

The models are just designed to fit into these animations. So when Hitmonlee jumps up for a hi jump kick, he'll take the same stance that Blaziken would take. They won't move the same. Machamp's punching animation will look different than Golurks. But Machamp's punching animation will look the same depending on if he uses dynamicpunch, bullet punch, ice punch, etc. The move's animation changes based on the move (ice around his fists, fists turning metallic, etc.) but this animation is shared between everyone that can use ice punch and such. Still, Golurk using ice punch will not look exactly like Machamp using ice punch.

I'd love to see one of these 2d 1v1 fighting style games break away from the cookie cutter mold of the rest of them. So what if Weezing floats around in the air? They could still give him realistic mobility and attacks. Most of his attacks would have to be projectile or full bodily contact, but lacking limbs shouldn't mean it'd be impossible to make it work.

Eh, I don't know if a dozen would even be necessary. I'm sure you could generalize most moves into projectile, fist/arm, leg/foot, head, and full body. Maybe a couple different animations in there to differentiate punching from scratching or headbutting from biting. 8-10 at the most?

I think that a humanoid shape and the potential to launch punches and kicks is important. Trevenant can swipe at opponents with its branch hands, so I think it'd be easy to implement in the game as an attacker.

I was speaking at any roster without Primeape.
Obviously the kudos was implied at the ones with them, and the curiosity was at those without.

I just hate seeing Primeape being muscled out from a position in any respect by the Hitmons or Machamp from 1st gen.

I'd argue Dudley style mixed with some Blanka Ball shenanigans. Balrog is too slow and Super Armor-ey for something as quick and frail as a Primeape.

I think mechanics wise it should play like Tekken Tag or the Clash of Ninja series with on the fly switches

as interesting as it sounds, that also sounds like it could easily make the game imbalanced.

Though on th efly tags like Tekken Tag or Mahvel would be cool, and pretty fitting for a Pokemon game.

Though I do hope they keep type matchups out of it. Not being able to play your main pokebro because of a bad type matchup would kill a lot of the fun.

Though winning anyway would be hype as fuck.

Thanks,The rivals are on the opposite side of the roster.
For example...
Hitmonchan vs. Hitmonlee
Scizor Vs Heracross
Lucrario vs Zoroark.
Etc..
After looking the roster over I would probably add Dexoys to be Mewtwo's rival and add Hawlucha to be Pangoro's.
