You know, I really would not mind Mega evolutions so much if they actually acted like a separate form and did not take up a item slot. Like have the Mega Stones as a key item and have the Pokemon switch to and from that way.

But yeah, I was kind of pissed that no Pokemon outside of Eevee received any new actual evolutions, especially since there are a ton that need them pretty bad to be usable.

The point is that megas are given to forgotten or neglected pokemon, but then THOSE MEGAS become forgotten and neglected because they're not good.

I would prefer that to megas honestly. I like megas, but some pokemon like farfetch'd need an evolution. Plus some really good pokemon came from it in gen 4. Mamoswine, electivire, gliscor, dusknoir. Some were meh, but I wish they would throw old, less popular pokemon a bone every now and again.

I blame eviolite for the lack of new evolutions

also I blame gen 5 for making "evolutions" and then deciding they weren't a while later. See: alomomola, bouffalant, siglyph, etc

Gen V was meant to be a reboot to the series. Just because we didn't get cross gen evos in Gen VI doesn't mean we won't get them again.

Mawile got one of the best Megas out there. With the addition of Fairy typing you can cripple dragons with Mawile so easily.

Switch in with intimidate and resist a large variety of moves and then Mega Evolve and get Huge Power with moves like Sucker Punch, Play Rough and Iron Head at your disposal? That's a bigger success story than Charizard for me. Charizard was at least usable if you could avoid pebbles but Mawile went from shit to Powerhouse in one generation.

Honchkrow, Gallade, Yanmega, Magnezone, Weavile, roserade, gliscor, frosslass, dusknoir, porygon z, togekiss are all kickass, quite a few of them being vast improvements over their pre evos (like anyone liked togetic).

While the only ones I'd say are close to objectively bad are rhyperior, electivire, lickilicky, tangrowth, ambipom and probopass (while even those have their fans). That's like, twice as many good to bad evolutions

(why the fuck did gen 2 have so many pokemon that felt NFE in both design and stats?)

Assault vest Tangrowth is usable with that great physical bulk, regenerator, and AV to patch the special side. It has a pretty high attack, too. It actually makes a pretty good pivot
