The one thing that ruined all pokemon games for me is that the best strategy in all of them is to simply use one pokemon all the time and it doesn't even matter which one it is, because it will get completely OP anyways.

Fuck building a well rounded team,
fuck creating move-sets for specific strategies,
fuck searching for that one pokemon you need against dark-type,
fuck catching rare pokemon,
fuck any move that isn't a damage dealing move...

Maybe the games would be better if they did away with the level system all together.

The solution isn't to get rid of the level system, it's just to make the AI more intelligent and their teams more diverse. All the boss characters have monotype teams, even the champion does sometimes. It's easy as fuck to make a superleveled starter that can hit everything reliably for at least neutral damage nowadays.

The problem isn't leveling, the problem is too little variety in enemy pokemon, and shitty effortless sets on their pokemon. Game Freak needs to take the effort they put into postgame teams and put it into the regular game ones. No, I'm not saying everything has to be max EV trained smogonshit, but I can only see the enemy use weak shitty moves and useless status effects like sweet scent or foresight so many times before I feel bored.

A well done team with EVs, IVs and all that shit with level 65 Pokemon would still lose miserably against one single level 90 Pokemon regardless of type average and such provided that it has at least one attack that does ok. A team made out of Slowbro, Starmie, Vaporeon, Milotic, Gyarados and Dragonite level 60-65 still wouldn't win against an Infernape level 90.

The only way to bypass this overpowered strategy is to make leveling easier and increase the level of the opponent's Pokemon. Either by giving the player 3 Lucky Eggs from the beginning or by having 309482 places to farm Audino.

Are you nuts? Yeah it would.

Anyway if your problem is that lower leveled pokemon are underpowered then you should just train more. And if you feel the game is too easy then catch pokemon as you go, use repels, or play a hard mode hack. Pokemon has never been difficult.

They changed Exp Share and made exp gain based on level for this very reason.
In XY the best strategy after you get Exp Share is to get 6 Pokémon.

Play pokemon stadium and colosseum. Everything is, or is almost, the same level in those games. It's much harder. The level system exists to make the games easier for players. Think about how shit most kids are at strategy. If game freak ever makes the games unappealing to kids, the franchise dies.

Yeah, playing PokeStadium with friends is really fun and engaging. That's why it's a shame they botched the single player so bad

They did crack it down compared to BW and BW2 (that already had the "exp gain based on level" system, so it actually took less then 2 decades), and your team is just few levels above the enemies now, despite the Exp Share, that I think is fine, otherwise the game can be too difficult for child.

You can still disable the Exp Share and enjoy the increased training difficulty.

I think that XY is pretty well balanced compared to old games, despite the general hate for the new Exp Share ("they changed it, so it sucks"). It was a nice addition to prevent people from training only 1 Pokémon (that's what I used to do in older games).
