Swampert and Sceptile are so bad, it's no wonder they give all the attention to Blaziken. The only other good ones of the nine are Sceptile, Mudkip and Marshtomp. Torchic and Treeko are only okay.

Swampert is the best starter in Hoenn, hands down! Only one weakness, bluky as heck, and have a decent movepool (if the Move tutors are present) Blaziken is so overrated and Inferape is the better version anyways. I don't care for Sceptile.

I mean, it's a very logical link between Mudkip and Swampert, you could easily guess what the 3rd stage would look like based of Marshtomp. Now compare that to Dewott -> Samurott, or Quilladin -> Chestnaught. Absolutely disgusting.

Not to mention, the second evolutions of Gen 3, represent an "teenage phase" of sorts, before the final evolutions, which look more like the base forms.
